The Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad.

The SR&RL. This is one of those magical railroads that inspires people to almost live and breathe its history. I know because it touched me, and I live in Australia. People who know it better can expound on its history, and no doubt many who read this know more than I do.

I know I enjoyed making the models, they have that essential narrow gauge charm accentuated by the 2 foot gauge and massive overhang. The models shown below all bear the correct numbers for the SR&RL asset register with the intention that no consist need contain duplicated numbers. Each config.txt has been set to the estimated loaded mass of the original, and the locos have been set to provide the same load capacity as the original and the same maximum speed. I have provided an HTML listing the weight and complete poly count for each item (with bogies) to allow consists to be assembled within weight and poly count limits

There is one thing that must be remembered, these are not low poly models and like the prototype should not be assembled into long trains. If bits start disappearing your consist is too long for your computer/route combination.

Every item has been run without problems in TRS2004. The packaging has been done with the latest version of Content Dispatcher and the number system is KUID2. If you want to run these models in UTC, email me with your Trainz name and number and I will tell you what to do.

Thanks are due to the following people in no particular order

bullet

Al Barten for getting me started on the project.

bullet

Gary Hoorn and Bob Pearson for making the locos work and sound as they should.

bullet

Brian Eckard for making a prototypical route to run them on.

bullet

Rich Blake for help and textures.

bullet

All the Trainz Narrowgaugers Group for keeping me on the straight and narrow (2 foot that is)

bullet

Finally to Auran and the Trainzers for making content making so worthwhile.  .

Enjoy

P.Pardoe-Matthews

Models by Ken Minasian  (Col Hogan)

TRS2004/TRS2006

Ken Minasian Bio (aka - Col Hogan)

I began my experience with virtual Trainz when Railroad Tycoon 3 hit the shelves. For about 6-8 months I had it running on my PC and enjoyed every minute with it. After I ran through a bunch of routes and maps, I went on another trek to find another RR simulator. I felt like I needed something a bit more realistic. In the stores again, I found Trainz 2004 late in the year of ’04 and liked it as soon as I opened the package. After a while, I thought “this thing has me down to my boots and I can’t let go of it. It’s the first game I’ve owned that I could keep for a long time and not get tired of it.”

My grandfather was a conductor on the Seaboard Coastline Railroad during my growing up years and on a trip to a small town in Georgia, he took me with him and eventually met Ray Charles on the train as he traveled between shows.. This, of course, was in the mid 1950’s when we were both much younger.

The thrill of the rails stuck with me all that time and has never let go. I will always love him for that. My granddad died in 1966 as a young man of 59.

I have always loved the railroad but never realized what a thrill it was to actually do something with a PC version. It’s fantastic. My heart is in the steamers and when the Diesels came out, I was not impressed. I had a chance to go to Erwin, Tennessee in 1975 which is one end of the Clinchfield RR and met the man who installed the 2-way radios in all the Diesels. At that time, all I saw were EMD F7’s and were the grey colors.

Today, I have a real hero in Todd Hohlenkamp (Prowler) who has made a lot of steam locos from the west and also Ben Neal (bdaneal) who has made several different steamers which include the East Broad Top locomotives.
I have built a couple of routes and one is now on DLS which is very detailed and rides about 15 boards long and is a narrow gauge route. An on-line friend has taught me about re-skinning (renovating) other assets and I am hard at it now working with Peter Pardoe-Matthews (Narrowgauge) on some of his SR&RL rolling stock.

And finally, I would like to say that my enjoyment of this game and its’ members has far surpassed the money I spent for it.

Ken
